Since 1778, it has gradually settled near the current site. It is named "Kulun" and "Da Kulun", which means "big temple" in Mongolian. After the founding of the People's Republic of Mongolia in 1924, Kurun was changed to Ulaanbaatar and was designated as the capital, which means "Red Hero City".
