Zagora - Gateway to the Sahara!
It might not have the name recognition of Timbuktu or Nouakchott, nor the buzz of Dakar or Casablanca, but the lesser-known city of Zagora offers perhaps the most spectacular landscape of them all. Located less than 150 miles from Marrakech, Zagora sits right at the edge of the world's largest desert.
Often referred to as Morocco's gateway to the desert, Zagora is the last stop before "52 days to Timbuktu", as a famous road sign in the city states.
The airport, constructed in 2008, now features a paved runway and beautiful Moorish-style buildings. Royal Air Maroc connects Zagora to the major Moroccan airports, and the airport frequently welcomes charter flights from the surrounding region.
If you want to experience the Sahara and dare to cross the vast desert, this is the place to start your adventure!

First of all, the approach into Zagora is absolutely breathtaking. If you want to truly experience flying over the desert, this is the place to go. For those using Navigraph, please note that charts for Zagora aren't available there. However, you can find the necessary charts on the SIA-Maroc website (https://siamaroc.onda.ma/eAIP/AD/index.htm). The scenery is well-modeled, though some buildings and objects appear oversized (the control tower and the red and white sidewalk blocks seem larger than I recall seeing in real life). The terminal building is nicely done, and overall, I believe this scenery is worth 10 euros. I look forward to seeing more FSDG products in Morocco. As of this writing, GSX does not work at this airport (hence the 4 stars).
