Mobile Regional Airport (IATA: MOB, ICAO: KMOB, FAA LID: MOB) is a combined public/military airport 13 miles west of the city of Mobile, in Mobile County, Alabama.
It is near Pascagoula, Mississippi.
The airport is owned and operated by the Mobile Airport Authority,a self-funded entity that receives no local tax dollars.
Unfortunately I haven't had the best experience with this airfield either. The first time I ran it, all the trees and vegetation were just big green blobs. I contacted the developer and he was relatively quick in providing an alternative file. While the trees look like trees now, about half of the trees and cars in the parking lot disappear for a few seconds and then reappear again for a few seconds. This repeats the whole time and is very distracting. The developer has not provided a solution for this yet. There is a reasonably good-looking airfield somewhere here, but it is really spoilt by these bugs.
The scenery isn't too bad really. However, there are several things that kinda mess up the scenery. There are too many static a/c parked at the airport. Way too many C130's when there is MAYBE 1 that should be parked at the Coast Guard base only. The static helicopters hovering in one spot is too much. This airport does not have any de-icer trucks. This airport is in the south we don't get temperatures where there are needed. I actually live within 5 miles of this airport and I have flown out of it many many times as a passenger and as a private pilot. The ground textures extend too far out from the airport and make it look as if its in the desert. However, on the other hand it is a inexpensive airport to add to your FSX airports. I really wish the author would allow to us to control what shows up such as static aircraft an all.
I was very excited at first when I saw that someone had made my hometown airport. On the other hand I think I did see where proceeds go to a animal charity from the designer. So the money was worth it just for that.
Some tweaking could make this a better scenery in my opinion. So hopefully the author will come up with a update and make it a much better regional airport.
