The Lockheed SR-71 is without doubt one of the most advanced aircraft ever built. Built from a need to go higher and faster, in complete secrecy, a total of 31 SR-71s were built including two trainer models. The only manned aircraft ever to cruise above Mach 3, the SR-71 flew over most of the hotspots around the world and was able to bring nearly real-time intelligence on what the enemy was doing. During its career it was said to have outrun hundreds of missiles fired in attempts to down it. After being retired from the USAF, NASA acquired two SR-71s for high speed research programs. In 1995 the SR-71 program rose like a Phoenix and re-entered the USAF inventory operating from Det 2 at Edwards AFB - utilising #971, #967 and the 'B' model #956. But in June 1999, the SR-71 operations from Det 2 were closed down amid a lack of operational deployments, and the SR-71's fate was sealed in October 1999 when NASA's #980 flew its last ever flight.

Although this mod is expensive, there is nothing that competes with it. I tried the free SR-71 mods but they are all pretty lifeless non-realistic mods that were clearly rushed (by comparison)
I'm going to start this by saying "Yes, I am a geek when it comes to the SR-71 and I read the whole flight manual for the real life aircraft front to back" So with that out the way I can say Wow, this plane mod handles exactly how the manual describes the real aircraft. The unusual quirks, especially the DO NOT DO THIS EVER parts are incredibly true to this mod. Climbing to 80,000 feet isn't as easy as you think and believe me its not just a simple straight climb, its a good 5 stage procedure with constant monitoring of engine variables, but that is to say it is incredibly rewarding when you finally reach that height, put on autopilot and start enjoying the view.
I can't praise it highly enough, I totally got my moneys worth and I hope this review was enough to advise you to go for it :) Btw I use FSX on W7 x64 and it runs perfectly.
Why fly slow when you can fly fast?*
This plane belongs to FSX like no other. Crossing the world in couple of hours and travelling at the edge of space is what's all about. Once you hooked with it, it's hard to go back to subsonic cruisers. It's also the coolest and hottest plane ever created, it's secret history is inspiring and well worth the study. Awesome and realistic recreation of this unique plane. Fly it by the book and experience the ultimate. It doesn't go higher or faster than this.
