Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, located on the North Island. It is known for its natural beauty, with stunning beaches, dormant volcanoes and a wide variety of parks and green areas. The city is also a major transport hub, with Auckland International Airport being New Zealand's largest and busiest airport.

One of the most interesting facts about aviation in Auckland is that Auckland International Airport is one of the few airports in the world that is built on a volcanic lava field. Volcanic earth is highly porous and is capable of absorbing large amounts of rain, which significantly reduces the risk of flooding. The airport is also one of the few airports in the world to have two parallel runways with a distance between them of just 760 meters.

In addition, the city of Auckland is home to several aviation and maintenance companies, including Air New Zealand, New Zealand's largest airline. Air New Zealand offers domestic and international flights from Auckland Airport, connecting the city with other parts of New Zealand, Australia, the South Pacific, Asia and North America.

Auckland is an incredible city with a unique aviation history, thanks to its airport built on volcanic earth and the many aviation and maintenance companies that call the city home.
