Description
Doha is the capital and most populous city in the Emirate of Qatar. Doha has a population of 956,457 in the city itself, with a total population close to 2.3 million. The city is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the east of the country. It is the fastest growing city in Qatar, with over 50% of the country's population living in or around Doha, and it is also the country's economic hub.
Doha was founded in the 1820s as a neighborhood of Al Bidda. It was officially declared as the country's capital in 1971, when Qatar gained independence and ceased to be a British Protectorate. As the commercial capital of Qatar and one of the emerging financial centers of the Middle East. Doha is considered a world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.
