Description

Edinburgh is a city in the United Kingdom with its own powers, situated on the south bank of the estuary of the River Forth (Firth of Forth). It has been the seat of the Scottish Parliament since 1999.

The city is dominated by Edinburgh Castle built on a rock of volcanic origin. After the unification of the Scottish parliament with that of England, Edinburgh lost its political importance but remained an important economic and cultural center. The city is world famous for the Edinburgh Festival which takes place for three weeks in the month of August. The city still has one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and the world, the University of Edinburgh, a pioneer in information technology and management.
