Description
Nuremberg is a city together with the neighboring cities Fürth, Erlangen and Schwabach form the economic and cultural center of northern Bavaria, called the Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg since 2005.
Despite the massive destruction of the city during World War II, most medieval buildings were rebuilt from original plans existing since the Middle Ages. Until today, the historic center is surrounded by the ancient wall with an extension of 4 km.
The city, however, is also known for having been the location of numerous Nazi Party rallies (the Nuremberg Meetings), as well as the Nuremberg Trials after World War II, in which Nazi Germany's war criminals were sentenced .
