Description
Winnipeg is the capital and largest city in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is located near the longitudinal center of North America and 110 kilometers from the US border. It is also the place where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet.
The city is named after Lake Winnipeg, the name Winnipeg comes from the Cree language and means "muddy water". The region was a trading center for Aboriginal peoples long before the arrival of Europeans. French merchants built the first fort on the site in 1738.
Winnipeg is known as the "Gateway to the West", Winnipeg is a center of rail transport and transport in general, it has a diversified economy.
