Guatemala City main airport and only airport is “La Aurora” located in the south of the city. The first landings in the field of which today sits the airport are known to be around the year 1911, the airport subsequently became an important air force base during WWII. Till today the airport is itself 3 airports in one, an Air force base, an important general aviation airport with more than 200 hangars, and the important international airport of Guatemala. Guatemala is one of the countries in Latin America with more private aircraft per capita, and as a result La Aurora airport is hub of many small and medium general aviation aircraft companies and owners. Also in commercial aviation many flights to and from Central America, North America and Europe operate out of this facility.
Recently the main terminal concluded some major renovations and expansion, making it possible for more than 20 narrow body aircraft operations at the same time. La Aurora is Central America’s third largest in terms of passenger traffic.
For this scenery we made sure that many of airport’s characteristics remain present in the simulator in order to make it as real as possible. Hundreds of hangars, and dozens of them opened, the surrounding buildings, the approaches to runway 01 and runway 19 with replicas of their atmosphere. Certainly this airport is an interesting place to visit in Central America.
