Buttwil Airfield was built to replace Spreitenbach Airfield, which had to make way for the Limmattal marshalling yard and the ever-expanding Zurich Airport. It was initially owned by the Buttwil Airfield Interest Group.
The airfield is primarily used by Eichenberger AG Flight School and CHS Central Helicopter Services AG for flight training on fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
Furthermore, work and cargo flights are conducted from there to supply the region's mountains and huts.
Glide operations are provided by the Zurich Gliding Group, which also provides training for glider pilots.
The maintenance company Rotor + Wing Technic AG is also based at Buttwil Airfield.
The Freiamt Parachute Group also operates its parachute school at the airfield.
A former traffic control tower of the Zurich City Police is used as the control tower.
Highlights:
- Completely recreated scenery
- Realistic and highly detailed depiction of the airport
- Lifelike lighting effects
- Animated people and windsocks
- Landing direction indicator
- Static vehicles, gliders and trailers
- Precise collision detection on the buildings
- Optimized execution speed by using LOD's (3D objects and textures)
- German manual - Manuel français - English manual
This scenery is basically the same as the MSFS 2020 version, with one important difference; The aerial imagery chosen by Asobo is bad.
The problem is, Flylogic did not correct this by adding a custom aerial image. Instead, they added ground polygons with generic default textures to patch over unwanted flat objects on Asobo's texture. Unfortunately, these default textures don't match in contrast and colour in most circumstances. So when MSFS renders the ground textures washed out, the ones used by Flylogic still display in full saturated green, leaving you with a gross mismatch in textures, well visible when landing on the airfield.
This is not how scenery design is done in 2025. And it doesn't help that one has to pay full price again for what is basically the same scenery as the previous version. Also not very customer friendly is the fact that Flylogic still uses installer technology from 20 years ago.
This feels like a low-effort cash grab, I cannot recommend getting this product. While the screenshots are carefully created to hide the generic textures, it will look much worse in your simulator in most situations.
I wish Flylogic would add custom aerial imagery, that would give them a solid 4 stars. Then replace the low-res texture bits on the buildings with modern ones and it could be a marvellous 5-star airfield. Many competitors do this, it's a shame that Flylogic went the cheap way.
