Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia, after Zagreb, the capital and Split. An interesting fact about Rijeka is that every year, the city hosts one of the biggest carnival festivals. The airport of Rijeka is actually located on the island of Krk, close to Omisalj, approximately 30 km from Rijeka. The island of Krk is connected to the mainland by a bridge; the toll for the cars is 35 kuna but it has to be paid only when coming from the mainland to the island.
