One of the world's most successful and useful light turbine helicopters, the Hughes/McDonnell Douglas/MD Helicopters 500 series began life as Hughes won the US Army observation helicopter contest with the YOH-6A Cayuse, which first flew in February 1963. The engineering and certification designation for all military and civil variants of this helicopter type is Hughes Model 369. It was offered in basic five and seven seat configurations.
In 1970 the 500C followed with a more powerful turboshaft. From 1976 deliveries were of the 500D, an improved version with again a more powerful engine, a T-tail, and new five blade main and optional four blade tail rotors. The 500D was followed by the 500E from 1982 with recontoured nose and various interior improvements including greater head and leg room.
From 1984, when McDonnell Douglas acquired Hughes Helicopters, the Hughes name disappeared and the 500E and 530F were built as the MD-500E and MD-530F Lifter. Military variants are marketed under the MD-500 Defender name.
This addon represents the 500D line with four variations:
Military observation
Military Special Forces attack/support
Military SOAR personel transport
Civil passenger transport
Features:
Custom exterior and interior animations
Fully clickable dynamic virtual cockpit. Perfectly flyable from the VC.
This is the design that I first saw as a toy when I was a child. It was responsible for getting me interested in helicopters at an early age.
A nice chopper that is pretty agile, and a little challenging to master flying and hovering. Not bad not great but definitely worth the price. Fun to fly around the many roof top helipads in Los Angeles Cities X add on scenery.
With not many reviews and bugs reported at the forum I didn't know if I should buy it. I took the risk and bought it. I have to say it is beautifull. With great interior and exterior, nearly 100% functual cockpit it is one of the best helos I have ever bought. Also the price is excellent. If you like this kind of hlicopters you should buy it.
Good job Nemeth!
An overall nice package at a low price. Runs very smooth on My nowdays mediocre computer (Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2,4Ghz, Geforce 8800GTS 648Mb, 3Gigs RAM, WIN XP SP3) There is nothing to dislike here. Would be even better to see the AH-6 Littlebird added too.
