Virginia Airport (FAVG) is a small general aviation airport located 10 kilometres (5.4 nautical miles) north of the city of Durban, the largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It was officially opened by the Mayor of Durban, Mr Ted Shaw in July 1959 one day before the start of the Governor-General’s Cup Air Race and the airport was also the starting point for the race that year. Virginia airport also serves as a testing ground for newly licensed pilots with many flight schools operating from the airfield.
