Santo Ângelo Airport (Sepé Tiaraju) (IATA: GEL / ICAO: SBNM) is a Brazilian regional airport, 13km away from the city of Santo Ângelo, a city located in the Missões region.
The Missões Region is a tourist region located in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul. It receives tourists from Brazil and different parts of the world, mainly Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Europe. The Missions Region is part of the Iguassu-Misiones (Iguaçu-Missões) international route. The name Missões derives from the fact that, between the 17th and 18th centuries, the Jesuit reductions of the Guarani, called Missions, were built in this region. On the Brazilian side, seven reductions were created, called Seven Peoples of the Missions. To the inhabitants of the Missions Region, the gentile missionary applies.
