Details

Marcello Arlotta Airport is an Italian civilian airport located in the municipality of Grottaglie in the Puglia region, not far from the city of Taranto. The facility includes a passenger terminal, operated by several Italian and foreign airlines, and a major Leonardo SPA industrial plant where Boeing 787 fuselages are assembled. Despite being classified as a "civilian airport," the airport is also home to the most important Italian Navy (Marina Militare) air base, MARISTAER, which operates various units, including the Carrier Aircraft Group (GRUPAER) which flies AV-8B+ Harrier II and F-35B Lightling II and the Fourth Helicopter Group (GRUPELICOT4) which flies SH-90 transport, assault, and anti-submarine helicopters. The Guardia di Finanza's Maneuver Air Section is also present at the airport with its ATR-72 aircraft and AW-169 helicopters.
