Phitsanulok Airport (IATA: PHS, ICAO: VTPP) is located in Phitsanulok City, Phitsanulok Province, just 3 kilometers from the city center. It is operated by the Department of Airports, Ministry of Transport, and was designated as a customs airport on September 1, 1991. Originally, it served as a base for the 46th Air Wing of the Royal Thai Air Force, established in 1941, functioning as a fighter and bomber airport.
History:
Phitsanulok Airport originally served the 46th Air Wing of the Royal Thai Air Force, established in 1941 for fighter and bomber operations during the Greater East Asia War. Afterward, it was used for flight training and other Air Force activities.
In 1953, the Civil Aviation Department, Ministry of Transport, received permission from the Royal Thai Air Force to use the area for commercial aviation, leading to the construction of a passenger terminal, control tower, and other facilities on 70 rai of land. The Thai Airways Company Limited began operations with a Douglas DC-3 for passenger transport on December 13, 1954. It was designated as a licensed airport and, on September 1, 1991, was declared a customs airport.
Facilities:
The terminal can accommodate up to 500 incoming and 500 outgoing passengers and has two levels:
- Level 1: Check-in area, souvenir shop, coffee shop, mini-mart, baggage claim area, and car rental services.
- Level 2: Area for outgoing passengers, airport office, and airline offices.
The aircraft parking area measures 137 meters wide and 300 meters long (usable length approximately 240 meters) and can accommodate four Airbus A320 aircraft.
Runway:
Phitsanulok Airport has one runway, 45 meters wide with 7.5-meter shoulders on each side, and 3,000 meters long, including safety areas (blastpads) measuring 60 meters wide and 90 meters long, as well as 60 meters long on each side. It is equipped with ILS, DME, VOR, and NDB navigational aids.
