Multan International Airport (IATA: MUX, ICAO: OPMT) is situated 4 km west of the city Multan in Punjab, Pakistan. The airport is southern Punjab's largest and busiest airport.
It offers flights from all over Pakistan, as well as international flights from Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sharjah. It is also an emergency alternative for Lahore and Islamabad Airports.
As the demand for air travel began to surge, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority decided to upgrade the facilities for the airport in 2005. Initially the runway was upgraded to handle Boeing 747 operations.In January 2010, the Pakistan CAA decided that a brand new terminal with four jet bridges would be constructed instead of expanding the current terminal.
In March 2015, new terminal of Multan International Airport was formally inaugurated by the PM as well as several high-ranking officials.After the inauguration., all the operations were shifted from the old terminal to the new one with flights increasing with more destinations and routes being opened up for the city of Multan. Following the opening of the new terminal, passenger traffic soared from 384,571 in 2014-2015, to 904,865 in 2015-2016.
