The VFR POLAND Region NW photo scenery for Flight Simulator X and Prepar 3D covers the northwestern region of Poland. The product is based on SPOT5 multispectral satellite images geometrically and radiometrically corrected to the seamless mosaic. The scenery reproduces the real characteristics of the surface of the ground in the flight simulator using textures of a ground resolution 2,5 m/px, hydrological layer and autogen.
The Republic of Poland is a country located in Central Europe, lying between E014°07' and E024°08', and N49°00' and N54°50'. It has a latitudinal distance of 649 km and a longitudinal distance of 689 km. The area of the country is 312679 km², the population is 38,5 million people, and the average population density 123 people/km². Poland borders 7 other countries: Germany in the west (467 km), the Czech Republic (790 km) and Slovakia (539 km) in the south, Ukraine (529 km) and Belarus (416 km) in the east, Lithuania (103 km) in the north-east and the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia (210 km) in the north. Most of the northern border consists of the coast of the Baltic Sea (440 km). The country is divided into 16 administrative regions - voivodeships: Mazovian (Mazowieckie), Greater Poland (Wielkopolskie), Lublin (Lubelskie), Warmian-Masurian (Warmińsko-Mazurskie), West Pomeranian (Zachodniopomorskie), Podlaskie, Lower Silesian (Dolnośląskie), Pomeranian (Pomorskie), Łódź, Kuyavian-Pomeranian (Kujawsko-Pomorskie), Subcarpathian (Podkarpackie), Lesser Poland (Małopolskie), Lubusz (Lubuskie), Silesian (Śląskie), Holy Cross (Świętokrzyskie) and Opole. The capital of the country is Warsaw (Warszawa).
The scenery covers lowland areas lying within the North European Plain. The natural vegetation in the region consists of temperate deciduous and mixed forests. The area is located within the Baltic watershed. The longest rivers in the scenery area are the Oder (854 km, including 742 km in Poland), the Warta (808 km) and the Noteć (391 km).
The scenery area's most important cities are Poznań, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Gdynia, Toruń, Elbląg, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Koszalin, Grudziądz and Słupsk.
Gdańsk has been the scene of some important events in the modern history of Poland and the world. The guardhouses on Gdańsk's Westerplatte peninsula were the target of the bombardment by the Nazi battleship Schleswig-Holstein on 1 September 1939, which is considered to be the beginning of World War II. In 1980, the Solidarity labor union was formed at the Gdańsk Shipyard. The social movement led by Lech Wałęsa brought about revolutionary political changes in Poland, as well as Central and Eastern Europe.
Poznań has also been the location of many major events in the history of Poland. The island of Ostrów Tumski, closely connected with the beginnings of Polish history, is presumably where the baptism of Poland took place in the year 966. The Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, located in Ostrów Tumski, is Poland's oldest cathedral and the burial place of the fathers of Polish statehood: Mieszko I and Bolesław I the Brave. In June 1956, the first general strike and street riots against the communist government of Poland erupted at the H. Cegielski Metal Industry Complex in Poznań. As a result of the uprising, which was brutally pacified by the communist police and army, 58 people died and more than 600 were injured.
Among the numerous tourist attractions in this part of Poland are two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork (with an area of 21 ha, it is the world's largest Gothic castle) and the Medieval Town of Toruń (about 1100 objects in the register of objects of cultural heritage).
