The RS-11 was build by Alco in the early 1956 as a diesel electric locomotive and classified as a road switcher. With 1,800 hp, two axle trucks with B-B wheel arrangement the RS11 was Alco’s answer to the GP9 produced by EMD.

Advantages of the RS11 were faster acceleration because of turbo charging and a higher tractive effort rating. The locomotive could be found in heavy haul freight as well as passenger services.

In over eight years production time 425 units were build for the American and Mexican market. A few examples of this model are still in service and could be found working for various railroads in the US.

Loadmeter

The Loadmeter shows you the current electric loading with the chosen regulator notch.

Dials

The four dials show you Booster Air Pressure, Lubricating Oil Pressure, Engine Water Temperature and Fuel Oil Pressure.
The needles show values with are calculated by LUA script.
The dials have no influence on the behaviour of the machine but give a little bit more realism to the cab.

Middle console

Gives you access to the Dynamic brake, the sander control, the reverser and the regulator.

Wiper control

You can start and stop all four wipers with the normal key in RW or you can switch on or off each wiper separately when you use the mouse and click on the wiper ( arrow ).

Switches

There are various switches controlling different functions:

  • Headlight Control
  • Bell
  • Cab Light
  • Name Plate lights
  • Wiper Control ( all four wipers )
  • Engine Start and Stop

Scenarios

The package includes 4 scenarios for the Horseshoe Curve route.

Cresson Shunter, 30 min, medium

You will be assembling an outgoing consist in this scenario.
It´s a cold winter’s day and the weather might turn to the bad ...

Short Freightrun, 35 min, easy

Starting at South Fork you will take a broken down freight train to Johnstown.
The weather is good and this should be an easy run to get familiar with the engine.

Night Run, 40 min, hard

You will deliver a heavy load from Altoona to Gallitzin.
It won´t be easy to keep your train under control, so be careful.

Unusual Job, 40 min, medium

A construction site in Cresson needs the daily supply of workers and materials.
You will bring a special train from Johnstown to Cresson.

Repaints

With an additional download you get the option to repaint the 3D models.
The download contains a Dump image which gives you an idea where the polygons of the 3D model are placed on the texture and a Shadow map which could be placed on top of your own texture creation to add shadows. I would be happy if you could send me an email with a screenshot of your repainted Alco RS-11: uf@virtual-railroads.de

It's amazing! The big city looks really great. I love the bridges with their night lighting. The big church is nice. Your other works (Beijing, Bangkok, Shenzhen, St. Petersburg, etc.) are also very good! Keep up the good work.

Very nice addition. I really missed this classic airport. I had to rename the addon folders so that they are loaded after Samscene3D Hong Kong scenery exclusion file as suggested by the author in the documentation. In my case I had wrong coastline shapes around the runway, missing airport parts but also road traffic on the apron. All those things are created by Samscene3D exclusion file, which is anyway needed. Renaming the two folders and adding a "z" at the start of the folder names fixed the issue. Both scenery addons work together like a charm.
JUSTSIM - HELSINKI-VANTAA AIRPORT - X-PLANE 11

It's pretty good. I bought the Helsinki Metropolitan VFR Scenery V3 XP from another site, and Vantaa isn't represented there, so this filled the gap nicely. The apron's concrete is randomly oilstained and there does seem to be some PBR on the tarmac areas as well as signage, and night lighting fits well with the Helsinki scenery. Still at the early stage of exploring Vantaa but so far it's a worthy buy.

The plane is wonderful, I've been flying for hours but there are things I miss like a GTN750 and a way to save my preferences from the artificial horizon, overall it has a great future!

I bought the latest version on 9-25 after several issues had been sorted out and must say it's already my favorite GA single or one of them - looks good, flies nicely, has that classic old plane look and smell and (major bonus) stays straight on the centerline after landing rollout unlike other payware singles. A great purchase, hopefully talented painters will create some gorgeous old 1960s/1970s liveries for this plane. And hopefully this talented developer will make us a V tail ASAP (or a Piper Comanche...or something else old and classy).

A must have for any bush flyers! This airport is a great addition to the sim and at a very low price. It has 5500 feet of gravel ready for your aircraft.
PEARL SIMULATIONS 2 - PHTO - HILO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MSFS

This airport is okay but the navaids do not work with MSFS. There are no SID, STAR, APPR, NAVAIDS available for departure and arrivals. It seems that it is not compatible with MSFS SU5+ It is very unfortunate.

YSIM - SUBSONEX JSX-2 MSFS

Everything good except the fact that LED, Radio and MGL EFID (MFD) are too bright for evening and night operations. Also I didn't find a way to make them less bright. For me this is a no-go because it is really hard to use. I find flight model moderately good, it differs from what people say about aircraft in the web but it really close in my opinion. The systems are really good, but lacks fuel shutoff. Also copy of real POH in addition to small guides and checklists would be helpful, because they don't cover things like trim control for take off, performance data and curves and so on. side note: The autopilot for that MGL systems do exists and it working in Ysim JSX-2 but it do not have some buttons in MFD for that. I think they will be added later. For now Autopilot can be engaged with any external controller, such as MSFS_MCA. I really wish brightness for instruments, including engine LED's and landing gear LED's will be fixed.
