Las Brujas Airport

Las Brujas Airport (IATA: CZU, ICAO: SKCZ) is the main air terminal in the department of Sucre. It is located in the municipality of Corozal, a few kilometers from Sincelejo, the departmental capital, and serves as an important gateway to the Sucre savanna region and the Gulf of Morrosquillo.

Its history dates back to July 12, 1939, when the first plane operated by SCADTA (now Avianca) landed, marking the beginning of air operations in the area. The airport was built through the initiative of pioneers of Colombian aviation and prominent regional leaders.

The name “Las Brujas” (The Witches) comes from old local legends that indicate that, during the colonial era, trials and punishments against alleged witches were carried out in the nearby lands, which is why the area adopted that name.

Currently, the airport boasts a runway of approximately 1,800 meters, a modernized passenger terminal, and services for domestic commercial flights. From there, connections operate primarily to Bogotá and other cities in the country, contributing to the economic, tourism, and business development of Sucre and the Caribbean region.

Thanks to investments in infrastructure and runway expansion, Las Brujas Airport has established itself as a strategic hub for air connectivity in the department of Sucre and one of the most important regional airports on the Colombian Caribbean coast.

Baracoa Airport in Magangué

Baracoa Airport in Magangué (IATA codes: MGN and ICAO: SKMG) is located approximately 12-14 kilometers from the town of Magangué, in the department of Bolívar. It is the main airport infrastructure in the La Mojana region and primarily serves small aircraft, helicopters, and regional support operations.

For much of the 20th century, the airport was a hub of commercial activity and was served by airlines such as Avianca and LANSA, connecting Magangué with cities like Bogotá, Medellín, and Barranquilla. However, the decline in air traffic led to the closure of its regular commercial passenger operations in 1969. Projects to reactivate commercial routes were subsequently studied, but these initiatives never materialized.

Currently, the airport maintains an asphalt runway approximately 1,500 meters long, as well as aeronautical infrastructure such as a control tower, navigational aids, and a passenger terminal. Its importance lies in facilitating air connectivity for a large area of southern Bolívar and the La Mojana region, especially for institutional, private, and regional service flights.

Baracoa Airport is a strategic asset for the economic development and territorial integration of Magangué, a city historically recognized as a commercial and riverine center on the Magdalena River.
