Thorp T-211 is a light sport aircraft designed in the United States by aircraft designer John Thorp. Its origins date back to 1944/1945 with first flight in 1946. When Thorp developed the aircraft as a small two-seat machine called the Sky Scooter. The T-211 features a low-wing monoplane configuration, fixed tricycle landing gear, no differential Brakes and a sliding canopy.
Development continued after World War II, and Thorp built eight prototypes. Early aircraft were powered by 65-horsepower Lycoming engines, while later versions used more powerful Continental O-200 engines. The T-211 featured a distinctive corrugated wing structure, which increased stiffness while reducing the number of internal ribs and rivets required.
The T-211 is 18 feet (5.49 meters) long, with a wingspan of 25 feet (7.62 meters) and a wing area of 105 square feet (9.75 square meters). With a 100-horsepower Continental O-200 engine and two-bladed McCauley fixed pitch propeller, it has a maximum speed of approximately 155 mph (135 kts), a cruise speed of about 120 mph (100 kts), and a range of approximately 375 nm (694 km). These characteristics make the T-211 an interesting example of a compact American light aircraft whose design has remained relevant through several generations of homebuilt and light-sport aviation.
