Why Piracy Hurts Everyone

Piracy undermines the dedication and creativity of developers. When you download or distribute pirated add-ons, it impacts the creators' ability to continue producing high-quality content. This affects the entire community by reducing the availability of new features and updates.

Consequences of Piracy

  • Legal Risks: Engaging in piracy can lead to severe legal consequences, including fines and prosecution.
  • Security Threats: Pirated software often carries malware, risking your personal data and system security.
  • Lack of Support: Unauthorized copies do not receive official support or updates, leading to potential issues and vulnerabilities.

How You Can Help

  1. Purchase Legitimately: Always buy add-ons from authorized sellers like SimMarket to ensure you receive authentic products.
  2. Report Piracy: If you encounter pirated add-ons, report them to the authorities or the original creators.
  3. Educate Others: Spread awareness about the negative impacts of piracy and encourage others to support developers by purchasing legitimate copies.

Thank you for supporting the flight simulation community and contributing to a fair and innovative marketplace.

Details

Navigation - VOR and DME is the second in a series of e-books aimed at teaching the novice X-Plane pilot about navigation in X-Plane.

X-Plane is a serious tool for learning how to fly correctly. This book continues where “Navigation - Book 1 - Pilotage and Dead Reckoning” left off. It is extraordinary just how realistic X-Plane 12 is. It is so accurate that we can use it to learn and practice proper real navigation.

This e-book focuses on navigation using VOR and DME navigational aids using the G1000 on one flight and the older analog gauges with the other. We look at how to navigate using the Garmin G1000 and older-tech "Steam gauges." The e-book is primarily practical, with internet links to the theory and long-winded explanations if you need them. You might wonder, in the age of GPS, why bother?

The answer is simple: these are fundamental skills that every pilot must possess. If your GPS and radios fail, these skills are your lifeline to prevent getting lost.

I assume you have already purchased Book 1 - Pilotage and Dead Reckoning before using this book, so a lot of stuff covered in the first e-book is not repeated here. You only need X-Plane (11 or 12) and a free Flight Planner/Moving map application. I recommend using Little Navmap for this purpose. There's no need for extra scenery or add-ons, although you're free to enhance your X-Plane experience if you so wish. The instruction flights in this book use the Cessna C172s and the Cessna C172s G1000, but any light aircraft will work fine.

The book jumps straight into it with a flight using the Cessna 172 fitted with old-style instruments. We plan the fight and determine how to get there using the two CDI gauges and the HI gauge. We follow progress using Little Navmap's moving map. We learn what to do when we are out of range of a VOR and how to deal with winds that blow us off course. At the end of the flight, we follow a STAR procedure and make a landing using the runway's ILS system.

The second flight is more challenging. This time, we use a Cessna 172 fitted with a modern Garmin G1000. We figure out the flight plan and navigation aids that we will tune into, but this time, the idea is not to use the moving map and only fly with the G1000 CDI for guidance. In this flight, we will use intersecting VOR radials as well as DME radials.

For landing, we'll use the G1000's ILS guidance system.
