I have all Drzewiecki Designs cities except Chicago. I had been impressed by their amazing attention to detail and offering of such large scenery areas. So I got NY City. v2 thinking I’d have the same outstanding experience.
Sadly not quite. While there is a huge amount of custom autogen and excellent photo scenery with nearly every point of interest viewable, there are also a lot of strange issues with some of those custom autogen buildings. A lot of them are just black or dark gray with limited night lighting. An equal number of these look exactly like the real world building and light up great. Throughout the city there are these off colored buildings that in shape only, resemble their real world counterparts. It’s kind of split like 50/50; perfect vs imperfect building appearances in all. The more historic the building the more likely it is actually modeled and lit well. So you will see the Manhattan skyline in mostly excellent detail and accuracy. Buildings below famous skyscrapers that are less well known appear to be those less accuracy grayish structures that even sometimes look like clay models in a way. All of the bridges are well modeled and none are off colored like some buildings I’ve described. They are well lit.
I guess I’d say that mostly this is a very good scenery package but not as good as all their others.
It’s possible that the appearance issues I am having are because of my GPU, so I can’t in all fairness remove more than one star. I still like flying around the enormous city area taking in the sites. Helicopter flying is especially fun and there are a few well detailed heliports to use.
Compared to Aerosofts Manhattan X this is much better by way of sheer size and scope to be explored. But AS Manhattan X is better when considering just Manhattan although very outdated. This scenery has the new towers completed where the Aerosoft Manhattan X show them only partially built. That is another reason this is the better option overall.
i now own washington X -miami city x and new york city X for p3dv4.3 and i love all three, next im buying moscow X and then chicago as soon as it comes out!!!
I run this in P3DV4.2 on a 4K i7700K GTX1080 setup. It's buttery smooth. I was not always a fan of DD. I had an old Miami that never worked in FS9 but this is totally in the other direction. I flew in from KALB and first noticed the very detailed 5M mesh somewhere up the Hudson.......not a single drop in FPS and that applied right into Manahattan. If you have a high end system it's a no brainer. Anything lower in the food chain and you might have to look at your config. A totally immersive NYC. I'll now consider the airports add-on.
Very nice addon! The developers invested a lot of time to make this scenery as realistic as possible and it really shows up here. The fps is fine, (i7 and GTX1080) but it's more then enough to make a decent flight. I really recommend it!
It's interesting that most of the comments here are from P3D users. In FSX this product doesn't even let me take off sometimes. When lowering the sliders it does and I can fly for a while before it crashes. I even manage to land sometimes before the computer's beep beep warning of OOM drives me crazy and crashes. I hate to use it in FSX, it definitely crashes it, OOM!!!
I have an I7-600, 1 Tera HHD, 8 Gigas ram, a GForce GTX 750, and the scenery crashes FSX despite it is built for it. Is it Fsx?.. I bet it is.
When I use it in P3D it is definitely my favarite place for flying, a beauty. Pity on Fsx...
Now I have v2.25 dedicated to P3D v4 and I'm fully satisfied by this product. Maybe it's not perfect but for me it's one of the most complex sceneries. Besides with new P3D fly NYC X in full glory with preferred setting - for me no more VAS or OOM's :)
I'm going to just add my two cents as best as I can. In the past I had purchased DRZEWIECKI DESIGN products for FSX, and it was a mix bag. In one hand, Miami was good enough to use, but NYC was terrible. So, to say the least that I was very hesitant to every buy one of their products again, was a real understatement. However, I've moved on from FSX and all it's problems, and I'm now running P3Dv3. Being born in NYC, I was really looking for something that would really represent my town, and do so in a good way. I gave this company a 2nd carefull look at what they have put out for NYC, and this time around I'm surprisingly pleased to say that they have come a long way. Is it perfect? No, but then again I said I was looking for something good, not perfect that would do my city some justice. You may still need to scale down, or tweat very little to get this city to run well, but it's way better than before, and lets face it, no one else out there has dared to tackle NYC since Aerosoft. DRZEWIECKI DESIGN has listen to their customers, and I think they have taken it as far as they can to give you the eye candy you expect as a New Yorker, without killing your frame rates. Have they won me over again as a customer, and will I buy another product from this company again? Yes.
upgraded to v2, frames are super good.
i7-920 at 4G ran very well, now running on i7-6700k at 4.5G and ssd, super smooth at 30fps flying vrs f/a18 with fsdt kjfk.
manhattan and surrounding 3d objects are good, photoreal nyc/nj with autogen objects are well done.
My specs: Prepar3d v3. I7 3770k@4.2,GTX660, 256Gb single SSD. An average Flightsim-rig with the latest P3D + Active Sky Next with average cloud coverage. Autogen@normal, all other@ very high. (not max)
Flew it with a trike over Manhattan @ 22fps fluid and soft with an occasional texture block flicker. Exceptional views from 700ft all the way from the statue of liberty to central park. Colors, buildings, docks... it's all really impressive.
Took a dive to 200ft and shot along Broadway southbound @ 15fps smooth and nice between the highrises. Amazing! Textures at this range are a bit blurry and skewed, but still outstanding considering the massive number of buildings we are talking about here.
Next test was to take my Aerosoft A319 (a pretty system-heavy, but not quite PMDG style aircraft) from KJFK and flew over south Manhattan at 3000 ft eastbound. Absolutely marvelous watching the view! The best rendition of NYC I have ever seen! This time at about 20fps, butter smooth = good enough for me.
Never any OOMs, load delays or stutters. Note that this is P3dV3, which handles these things a lot better than previous versions.
I had big doubts when running this scenery in its previous version at my old FSX.
But now, with DD having a tremendous job at optimizing and tuning the scenery for v2, and running it in the P3DV3 Environment, this is great great stuff.
