Mariscal Sucre International Airport (IATA: UIO, ICAO: SEQM), also known as Tababela Airport, is the main international airport of Quito and the busiest airport in Ecuador by both passenger and cargo traffic. It is officially named in honor of Antonio José de Sucre, the Venezuelan military leader and hero of Ecuadorian and Latin American independence.
The airport is located on a plain in the eastern suburbs of Quito, in the town of Tababela, 25 km from the historic city center. It opened on February 20, 2013, replacing the old airport that had been situated in the middle of the city. In 2013, Mariscal Sucre handled 48.36% of all passenger traffic in the country. Its operations are managed under a concession agreement with Quiport, valid until 2041. The airport currently serves as the main hub for Avianca Ecuador, LATAM Ecuador, and Aeroregional.
