Polokwane International Airport (FAPP) is an airport located in Polokwane, Limpopo, South Africa.
Polokwane Airport opened in 1919 as the Pietersburg Air Force Base which was closed in 1993 and then transferred from military control to civilian control. In 1996 the airport was reopened as the Gateway International Airport and in 2002, it was renamed again to Polokwane International Airport following the renaming of the city of Pietersburg to Polokwane.
In 2010, the airport underwent a major modernization in preparation for the FIFA World Cup that year. These upgrades included an upgrade to the terminal, runway improvements, and navigation equipment updates to handle international charter flights.
The airport provides scheduled daily passenger connections between Polokwane and Johannesburg via the OR Tambo International Airport.
