Discover what made the famous rocket-powered Messerschmitt Me-163B the extraordinary flying machine it was. This package features possibly the most authentic aerodynamics ever done for this iconic WWII fighter, painstakingly researched and written by FSX aerodynamics master Bernt Stolle, whose own father flew the Me-163B in WWII - and thus this was a very special project. From mastering the art of taking off in an aircraft with a very narrow (and jettisonable) undercarriage, to combat maneuvering at high speed among the bomber formations, to flying back to your airfield and landing the aircraft in gilder form once the engine fuel is used up, you will come to know both the challenges and joys that were those of the real Me-163B pilots.

Although the Me-163B was known for its nice in-flight handling characteristics, this Me-163B will none the less be a challenge for experienced pilots, or for those seeking to expand their skill range. Discover why only the best of the best were allowed to fly the Me-163B Komet - including those with exceptional glider skills.

Experience the Me-163B aerodynamics to their absolute fullest.

Included free:

  1. An entire USAAF B-17G Flying Fortress bomber formation, to scale, with 162 accurately scaled low poly aircraft (flying via a single set of air files), which can be flown as AI or by using freeware programs (such as the excellent FormationSetup, available here), to fully enable you to experience the spectacle and scale of these formations plus what it took to get the Komet into a firing pass, for example, and discover the high skills required of flying such a high speed aircraft against slower machines.
  2. An accurately scaled, low poly, Messerschmitt Bf-110G tow plane, to take you up to altitude on unpowered training flights (instructions for use included).

History:

The Messerschmitt Me-163B saw action from May 1944 until the end of the war, and so far has been the only rocket-powered fighter to ever have been operational.

Designed by Alexander Lippisch, a pioneer in the field of aerodynamics and especially 'flying wing' designs, the first flight of the revolutionary Me-163A was in 1941, and soon established a new speed record of 1104.5 km/h (624.2 mph). However, the revolutionary design meant a lengthy development period, and the Komet only became operational in mid-1944. The rocket engine would remain a temperamental (and often dangerous) element of the design, but the extraordinary performance of the Me-163B would give it an unrivalled speed advantage over any contemporary piston fighter for the rest of the War. The fastest-ever recorded speed of the Me-163B was 1,130 km/h (702 mph), a speed which would not be exceeded until 1953, by a Hawker Hunter.

Information is not that clear, but some 400 Komet's were built, with 279 seeing operational service. Their actual effectiveness, due to late-war production and fuel-supply difficulties, was limited, and in the end the 163 was only responsible for (depending on the source) between 9 and 16 kills in total (for the loss of some 6 Me-163's due to enemy action plus another 9 to accidents ).

Great airplane! The one thing I don't like is the water drop effect. There is a great mod on flightsim.to that makes it better. Aside from that its a great plane!

Too bad. Invisible objects, taxi outside taxiways, traffic control does not direct to the gates, a mess in the terminals. Aircraft passing through buildings and colliding with each other. The look is good, well done, but impossible to simulate. These developers should test scenarios before selling. I regret buying.

Very nice Caribbean airport very well modeled with a great price!

This is definitely not 'plug and play'! you have to do some additional work to make it fully working, specially the "hover" part. The included PDF instructions its complicated at best. There is a bit of information here and there in the internet, but if you are looking for support to help you, Good luck!! You on your own. Otherwise its a great plane it fully uses all of MSFS assets and capabilities, its a pleasure to fly and it does hover to land although its a learning curve. This has become my main VSTOL and VTOL plane.

Well that´s an old piece of scenery and although it should meet P3D5 requirements it does not at all. The exclusions don´t work and need to be reworked and the ground satellite image looks blurry. Even the runway does not cover the sat-image runway perfectly and a white stripe peers from the background. So even at the sale price, I can not recommend it.

Thank you for adding animated jetways, amazing scenery

At landing the sim stutters, freezes and so on; possibly there's some incompatibility with ORBX Alaska mesh.

The review knocking this for having no auto pilot despite the store description clearly saying it does is accurate. The only place that mentions the simple auto pilot is the flight manual where it says the A\P is ONLY for P3. NOT FSX or Steam! so that was very annoying! other than that I really like this helicopter! It flies so smoothly. Very easy to control and a real joy to fly. looks great too! The audio is a bit understated but i guess i can just turn the volume up. runs great on my Win 10 i7 3.3ghz 16GB Ram. Intel UHD 630 integrated GPU

Set up was easy - HOWEVER - software will installed 3 versions (for all the simulators), not just the one you are running. Its up to you to run the correct .exe for your sim. For example, it can and will run the FSX version on MSFS2020, and you will be none the wiser. SO be sure to click the correct one as different option menus are assigned to different sims. It took me a while to realise, that I was in the 'generic' version of this app instead of the MSFS one and for this reason I could not simply leave flight to continue live flying (as this is exclusive to MSFS2020 and the corresponding .exe which goes with it.) The interface is nice enough - but takes up far too much screen space making it look clunky and amateurish. Would be great if the software could loaded automatically on sim startup. Apart from these smallish gripes, the software runs beautifully smooth, and it is perfect for practicing the same scenario with the correct switches and settings to resume flying wherever you choose on a saved track. It does this almost instantly and I am extremely happy with how efficient this works for practicing situations that can be tweaked on the fly. It really makes learning the complexities of aircraft (like the 737PMDG / Fenix A320) a breeze to practice and master and to me it's a fantastic buy for this alone.
