Yamoussoukro is the capital of Ivory Coast, located about 240 kilometers north of Abidjan, with a population of about 100000. The geographical location of Yamoussoukro is 6 degrees 50 minutes north latitude and 5 degrees 15 minutes west longitude (6.8333, - 5.25). In 1983, the government decided to move its capital here. Located in the middle of the border, the East Bank of the bangdama river. The population is 240000 (1987). It used to be a small village. It is now a new political and cultural center. Yamoussoukro has built infrastructure and magnificent buildings. There are demonstration middle schools, higher public engineering schools and technical education colleges, as well as comprehensive gymnasiums and international hospitals. The road leads to Abidjan and Bouake. There is an international airport on the outskirts of the city.
Yamoussoukro International Airport (IATA : ASK; ICAO : DIYO) is an international airport located in Yamoussoukro, the capital of ivory coast. Its main civil aviation business is the regional international routes between Cote d'Ivoire and West African countries. However, since 2004, the airport has been taken over by the United Nations peace keeping forces for the entry and exit of United Nations personnel and the transportation of relief materials for the country.
