Runway friction in Prepar3D... Problem identified: Unrealistic …
Solution? FSPS's Frictionality P3D

Runway friction in FSX was always a subject of discussion in the developers and advanced users community. The problem in a few words is that FSX friction is unrealistic. In some cases aircraft would taxi on idle thrust while the real aircraft was not behaving like this (or vice-versa) at the exact same conditions. (Runway condition, thrust, weight), aircraft is accelerating faster in wet / snow covered runways and more. And not only that but – unfortunately – due to the relation of FSX/Prepar3D, the problem was carried to the Prepar3D also!

At the start many thought that the aircraft physics model was not made correctly: For example that the thrust was misconfigured or that the weight distribution played a role.
Actually all problems (most times) are due to the way Prepar3D is handling friction.

You can easily test out yourself a part of the problematic default Prepar3D settings by accelerating with a specific aircraft to a specific ground speed down the runway.
You will notice that you will need (just for example) 10 seconds to reach 50KTS GS on model “X”. By changing the weather setting to have a wet runway you will see that you will need LESS time (i.e. 9.7 seconds) to reach the same speed. Is that possible?

Thinking lightly , someone would say yes. The friction of the same surface when on dry compared to wet is higher, so the opposing force would also be higher, so the distance on the same thrust and weight – thus the time – to reach the same speed would also be higher. But is that true? No. In real life there is also the resistance from the mass of water that the wheels travel on and cut through, so a 'virtual weight' or an opposing force, is added to the formula... That – in real life – causes the aircraft to need more distance and additional time to reach the same speed when on wet!

Some people in the past tried to fixed the problem by replacing the Sim1.dll (the file that contains all friction values). Although a pioneer approach to solve the problem, the quality of the results would vary from user to user as some smaller aircraft behaved differently from bigger ones. So the 'patch' would work nice for some but not so nice for others who use different aircraft.

FSPS decided to resolve once and for ever the “Prepar3D friction” problem. By directly communicating with Prepar3D (no need for any external software like FSUIPC) we managed to manipulate the friction for each surface and condition (dry, wet, snow) you could encounter. We managed to be able to manipulate it in real-time, without need of a 'patch' or changing any Prepar3D file. We placed all our knowledge into an application 'armed' with profile saving so you would save each friction for each of your aircraft.

That way you would fix (if you like) only the Grass runway wet friction for your little Cessna that you may don't like , and leave everything else untouched OR you would change all friction values for your complicated Boeing 737 home simulator for all kind of runway types your may encounter and for each of the weather conditions...

Dear FSPS customers, we proudly present you “Frictionality P3D” . The application that will change Prepar3D's friction for ever...

Features:

  • Real time rolling friction manipulation for all types of Prepar3D runways for all wheel configuration aircraft.
  • Real time friction manipulation for sliding and braking friction.
  • Real time friction modifiers manipulation for Wet and Snow contaminated runways.
  • No additional software necessary to send friction into Prepar3D.
  • Profile saving capability that enables you to save different friction sets for any aircraft of your fleet.
  • Popular Aircraft profiles are provided build-in for ease of starting up.
  • Ability to load profile from another aircraft. If they are similar models there is no need to set all the way the second aircraft.
  • Ability to load profile from external sources. If you find a profile shared in the internet or a friend has one ready, loading it is a matter of just some clicks.
  • Test mode to check how the changes you are doing reflects to the aircraft's usage.
  • Results stored in Test mode table for reference during tests.
  • Auto profile loading when selecting a 'ready' & saved aircraft.
  • Significantly light application using latest programming technologies resulting in zero Prepar3D frames reduction.
  • 30 pages PDF manual.
  • License transfer capability without need to contact Support in order to use software on as many PCs you want (only one will work at a time however).
  • … and more

FLYSIMWARE - FALCON 50 FSX P3D

A great addon! Nice model with some animations and a detailed interior, excellent hand flying, an brief yet complete documentation, an interactive load manager and the choice between a rather analogue cockpit and the possibility to retrofit it with a more advanced GPS device like the GTN 750 and the REX weather radar (both to be purchased separately-not included!)! -
I love this bird!
JUSTFLIGHT - A318 JETLINER

I have owned this for a year or two now, it sits in the LITE area of complexity. Wh-
ich means since you are alone in the cockpit work load is reduced by half, which in a way makes it feel even more realist (more time to focus on the flying). It has a basic FMC which operates alone quite well, you can load saved flight plans into, also it will plan major routes automatically and also has a direct to function. Overall it is a slimmed down FMC which works well without the need for external plugins (FSUIPC). Th-
e 3D model is up there with the best, the cockpit is a custom made on, it is a little basic and similar to the Default A321. Flight model is pretty good, it is a little underpowered, and has a tendency to want to "nose down" during decent but over all its really good. (I have actually made a few tweaks to the config to get it to make real world performance and its a dream to fly now). There is NO FLY BY WIRE though, but for this price you cant complain, and performance and framerates are so high that you can forgive this. These days it's the only airliner I fly! And, set up correctly she will fly from Shannon to New York just like the real aircraft can. I found using the sound from the Aerosoft A319 suits this aircraft the best but the default sound is also very good. Overal-
l a lovely aircraft and great fun to fly.

One of the Best VABB scenery! I really loved it! Only if you add some buildings and the fire depot of the airport it will be a great airport!
FLIGHT SIMULATOR INNOVATIVE ADDONS - FLIGHT SIMULATOR FIRST OFFICER TFDI 717 EDITION FSX P3D
Joe
Outstanding! Great addition and also great value per dollar. This first officer is well conceived and just as well executed. It isn't frequent to encounter a skilled programmer who also has a good sense of human interfaces and gui. After my experiences with other add-on copilots, I hesitated on this for several weeks. I shouldn't have. It is just what I wanted in this type of add-on. With this I'm learning a lot of the little things I haven't been doing. I can to a sense learn by example, beginning with letting the first officer do almost everything, then taking more onto myself. I've been an amateur flight simmer for 30 years and can complete a flight with any aircraft. But, I've always known I was taking advantage of the limitations of the sim and cutting many corners. This first officer is teaching me new things and adding a lot to my enjoyment of the flights with him. Thank you, Matthew King! Great Job!
THRUSTMASTER - TCA SIDESTICK AIRBUS EDITION

Very good stick for a reasonable price. The only negative I can give is that it sometimes slides around my desk when I’m using it. The rubber feet could be better. But again, I cannot fault it’s operation. My landings have actually got better since using it.

Love this aircraft! Th-
is is a high fidelity simulation of the Dassault Falcon 50 of which I am really in love with. Flies great, handles great, truly a joy to fly. This is by far the best business jet for P3D. Really reccommend it!
DIGITAL DESIGN - LYON-SAINT EXUPERY P3D

Just a beautiful airport. Digital Design's best to date imo. The modelling, detail, textures, and use of PBR are very good. Now one of my favourite airports to fly to in Europe.

Very nice work. Whilst Andrei is already on a very high level, he is getting even better from update to update. The overall impression of this scenery is very realistic. Especially the ground texturing of the taxiways and the aprons are outstanding and have a crisp and natural look. Also the reflections of the markings on the concrete look very natural. Andrei is using PBR where it makes sence and give this additional portion of realism. The night ilumination is also very realistic. I´am really looking forward to the V5 updates of LFMN and his other artworks, because the visual quality he delivers combined with the grade of high details and the performance is his trademark and worth every single penny.

I love the fact that for so many years this package is being kept up-to-date. There are not many countries with all airports having commercial high-quality sceneries and Poland is definitely on of them. Overland did a similar thing with Japanese airports back in FS2004 times and Aerosoft has German Airports (not sure if those packages are available for P3Dv5 though). Kudos to DD for keeping this series alive. I will be glad to support it in the future and I really enjoy the newest changes at the airports. Trains rulez! :)
