XP12 World Power Grid transforms the default electrical infrastructure in X-Plane 12 by replacing repetitive, generic power lines with a realistic network based on real-world OpenStreetMap data.
Instead of seeing the same pylons repeated across the landscape, pilots experience power lines following their actual routes, with pylons and poles appropriate to the voltage and type of electrical network.
Realistic Power Lines and Pylons
High-voltage transmission lines feature large steel lattice towers, while smaller distribution networks use wooden and concrete poles. Realistic sagging wires connect the structures, and careful placement prevents pylons from appearing directly on roads or railway tracks.
Detailed Electrical Substations
Substations are recreated using their real-world outlines and feature fenced gravel yards, transformers, switchgear, gantries, and connecting electrical wiring. These details bring a new level of realism to industrial landscapes.
Nighttime Lighting
Floodlight masts illuminate substation yards after dark, with glowing lamps that make electrical facilities visible during nighttime flights.
Electrified Railway Infrastructure
Electrified railways feature overhead masts and contact wires that follow railway tracks, including junctions and stations, adding another layer of realism to the environment.
Realistic Vegetation Clearance
Trees are cleared beneath overhead power lines and inside and around substations, recreating the vegetation-free corridors found around real electrical infrastructure.
Power Station Details
Cooling towers are added to power stations, making major energy facilities more recognizable from the air.
Seamless X-Plane 12 Integration
X-Plane 12's default power lines are disabled to prevent duplicate infrastructure, ensuring a consistent and realistic appearance throughout the scenery.
