Fort Wayne is a city in the United States, the seat of Allen County, in the state of Indiana, where the Maumee River forms. In 1794 the city was founded, which was incorporated in 1840.

Fort Wayne is named after Anthony Wayne, of the United States Continental Army, who built a series of fortifications in the area near the community of Kekionga, the largest of the settlements of the Miami Amerindian tribe. These people settled in the area in the mid-17th century, and were related to the Algonquians.

The settlement's foundation was geographically strategic, as the rivers today called Maumee, Saint Joseph and Saint Mary converge and this was vital for trade and transport.nnIn 1790, President George Washington ordered his army to take Indiana, and after losing battles against Miami, in a third incursion he managed to seize power in the area. After that the chief Michikinikwa (Little Turtle) decided to sign the peace.
