Fly the Maddog X - addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Fly the Maddog X is one of the most sophisticated and complex add-on ever developed for the MD-82, built after the McDonnel Douglas MD-80 series.
Fly the Maddog X features advanced, study level aircraft systems that cannot be matched by any standard aircraft; it can be flown by following the operations manual of the real aircraft. We even encourage you to use such documentation to experience the level of detail that has been accomplished with this aircraft. Fly the Maddog X also features the undocumented intriguing details that real pilots experience when flying the real aircraft.
NOTE: If you also own Fly The Maddog X for Prepar3D v4-v5 it should be updated to the latest version in order to work properly side-by-side the MSFS version.
Textures in the cockpit and around the exterior of the aircraft feel dated. After seeing how beautiful some MSFS can be, this aircraft just doesn't hold up to some of the better PBR textures I've seen.
The flight model feels extremely heavy and it's hard to manually pilot the aircraft. The delay between when you make an input and when the aircraft responds is slower that even the largest aircraft in the sim. I can imagine this being true for the AN-225, but for and MD-82 this seems a bit exaggerated.
The last and biggest complaint I have is the archaic method of installed liveries and changing options on the aircraft. It's done outside the program, but you still have to search through forums and manually install any liveries. The process just feels old.
Normally this would all be minor stuff, but again, for THE most expensive aircraft in MSFS atm, this addon needs to do everything better, and it doesn't.
Sounds are fine as they are FTsim sound is very unrealistic and loud.
Hopefully they'll record sounds for different zones though so we can hear the engine louder for example for when we walk to the back of the cabin.
Anyway, this is a fantastic addon, just lovely.
True high fidelity.
Thank you Leonardo software.
Plane also will essentially shut down when you use pause and escape out to the controls menu or need to use the loo - or when adjusting with FSUIPC.
I'd wait for a bit before buying.
The external model is very nice and with classic liveries to chose from. Can't say much about the flight model but it looks realistic to me.
Must read the manuals to learn how to use it and that is a challenge on its own. I appreciate the overall experience!
Two items that I feel are sub-par at the moment are the engine sounds and the 3D textures in the cabin. These coupled with the sale price its creating a lot of mixed feelings in all the discord groups I interact with.
It will be nice for Leonardo CS to let the public and potential buyers know their plans to update the plane and how soon that will be done to help in their decisions.
Otherwise than that I believe supporting the developer to bring this kind of simulation is always good.
The Maddog is one of the absolute best P3D addons, and many often consider it to be among the top 3 aircraft on the platform. The plane has been improved(!) for MSFS, and includes some upgrades, like an in-cockpit EFB, which integrates well with my normal pre-flight workflow.
If there's anything to criticise I would point out that the textures/modelling, especially internally, aren't as good as the best currently available in MSFS, but it's still a dang pretty plane, and the textures don't bother me one bit when flying.
10/10 for the system
but 5/10 for the cockpit texture. Hope dev can improve this in the future
In depth simulation of all systems, a LOT to learn - it will take months until I will be able to say: I know the MD-82!
The sound seems ok to me, engines are really far back, so inside the cockpit I do not expect to hear them. My Butt Kicker makes sure I know they are doing their work…
One thing in VR: the 3D mouse pointer turns into a double mouse pointer image when over the OHP. I contacted Leonardo and they confirmed that issue will be fixed in the next SU.
A highly recommended addon for anyone who is willing to dedicate time and effort to really learning this bird. It is not meant for beginners.
As others have said there could be a few improvements made to sounds and a few of the textures but honestly these are such a minor detail when the overall product is so fantastic. This plane is what many of us have been waiting for since the day MSFS released. A FULL simulation of a complex airliner that allows to you study, learn, and enjoy the challenge of this great old bird.
Thanks again LSH.
This is an addon that replicates the majority of the flightdeck systems, and does it very well. The external model is very good, an looks beautiful in MSFS.There are good manuals provided as well as an external aircraft configurator, used for flight planning as well as setting up the systems on-board, sound volumes, etc.
I've been a Maddog user since 2006 (FSX), and am delighted to fly the MD80 in MSFS.
Why 4 stars?
The sounds are not great. Sounds cut-in and out (such as the engine start-up). Opening the window does not make a difference and looping can be heard at certain times. It's not that the sounds are poor, just not up to the rest of the aircraft. I'm confident this will be addressed, either by Leonardo or an external developer.
If you prefer older aircraft, want a challenge in learning new systems or want a more realistic MSFS experience I can recommend the Maddog from Leonardo.
The only down-sides, as mentioned, are some of the textures which look a bit too blurry for MSFS2020 - especially the wings when viewed from the cabin. Some sounds aren't there also (or are too quiet - wind-drag on spoiler deployment etc. Having said that, I'm sure Leonardo will improve both through future updates and I really can't give it less that 5 stars.
If you are looking for a complex airliner, this is the one!
Thanks Leonardo!
great and smooth.
just keep going MadDog
hope to see more and more releases from this company.
Thanks
