When recently googling for new add ons for my FSX program, I came accross a utility called FSXLive by PositionGames.com. So how does FSXLive work? First of all you need to download a free utility from www.fsxlive.com. Then you need to start the FSX program and the tool called FSXFollow.exe. This tool recognises that FSX is running. Next thing you need to do is log on to the PositionGames.com server (as this does not happen automatically). I was able to choose any name for my flight. The flight name is important, I will explain why later. As soon the tool was running (and my FSX), I noticed in the log that the tool is sending the plane’s location to a server every few seconds, which I found handy so I could clearly see that FSXFollow was running successfully. Happily I didnt have to enter any IP address, as usually this is required for other tracking add ons.  Now the user is ready to fly so you can proceed to http://FSXLive.com. The good thing is that this works on all the computers/gadgets I have. I tried using a Mac, PC and XBOX 360 and yes, it evens works on my 60” Samsung smart TV. So how does this system work? The system sends all the airplane data to a server through the utility. The browser page also connects to the FSX server. You will see in the screenshot a list of airplanes (or sessions). These sessions are airplanes from other users using the same system and are logged on at the same time. This allows you to watch where others are flying. So when I click on my flight name it automatically updates the location of the plane on google maps instantly. This screenshot shows the location of the plane and the green line represents the flight plan. The flight plan is also shown, with each waypoint listed seperately. So is this software all for free you might ask? Yes, however there is one minor catch. The system works for 10 minutes after you start the FSXfollow.exe utility, then the plane’s location will revert to 0 longitude and 0 latitude. When you want to use it without the time limit, you need to pay €6.99 subscription for one year. Not much to spend since your flight is accessible from any modern browser. I was able to pay through paypal and within 8 hours I got my serial key. I entered the serial key and my email address and it worked straight away. Pros No IP address needed Works on any device with modern browser, including iPad, Android Tablet, XBOX, PC, Mac worth the money Cons - I had to log on manually after starting the FSXFollow utility.
