Aberdeen Airport opened in 1934 to link North Scotland with London. The airfield became a RAF Dyce, during World War II. Fighter aircraft were based here to provide protection from bombing raids but airfield was bombed by the Luftwaffe on 26 July 1940 and 27 August 1940, no damage was reported.
The airport was nationalized in 1947 and was transferred to the British Airports Authority (BAA) in 1975.
With the discovery of North Sea oil, helicopter operations began and Aberdeen Airport became the world's largest commercial heliport. More than half of all aircraft movements are helicopters. In October 2014 Aberdeen airport was sold to a consortium of Ferrovial and Macquarie Group.
Aberdeen Airport is looking to extend the runway for larger modern aircraft to fly to destinations across the Mediterranean, North Africa and North America.
Have been waiting a VERY long time for an accurate and decent scenery for Aberdeen and this does not disappoint. I grew up here and spent many happy hours plane spotting at various locations around the airport. This is an excellent portrayal of the airport and immediate surroundings, especially the NATS Control Tower and the Bristows Helicopter Base. Great detail, good frame rates, even at max settings and well worth the wait and money!
Excellent realism, lots of detail, plenty of static aircraft/helicopters and all with very high FPS. Large degree of customizing available to add/reduce detail. Very highly recommended. Another great UK2000 scenery.
Very pleased! I've been waiting for some time for this scenery and not disappointed! I'm in and out of ABZ on a weekly basis from a variety of stands from KLM/AF at 1-3, BA at 7 and Eastern Airways around the corner, all very accurately modeled! Frame rates are very good. Further away from the main terminal building, the control tower, maintenance buildings, cargo, Heliport all finished to a high degree of realism! Great effort!
