The Land at Prestwick airport was first used for aircraft in 1913. However, proper building developments were not until 1935 when the airfield was used for training pilots. This included a basic control tower and several hangars. This marked the beginning of Scottish Aviation Ltd who chose Prestwick airport as its home due to its good weather conditions.
During World War II Prestwick airport was used as a base for US aircraft deliveries and other transit flights. Scottish Aviation began production of aircraft at Prestwick which continued until 1996. The next major expansion was between 1958-1964 in which a new control tower, terminal, freight buildings were built of which little has changed since.
In addition to the passenger terminal, Ryanair have a maintenance base here and a Large 747 hanger is also available. On the North side is RAF Prestwick, a radar station and RNAS Gannet, which is an SAR site. Prestwick has always struggled to gain flights, Ryanair were, until recently, very active at Prestwick, but have reduced their flights and moved them to Glasgow.
I've always been a big fan of UK2000 simply because the quality is great and the framerate is excellent. Prestwick airport is no exception there, beautiful surrounding and an exact design of the real airport. I am also grateful to UK2000 for designing airports for Fs2004. I highly recommend this product.
Prestwick was my home all my life until a company restructure forced a move away. I have been waiting for Gary to release his PIK over the last few years and finally it has arrived! Textures are fantastic and the performance is what we have all come to expect from UK2000 over the years. A good balance is struck between "eye candy" and sim performance. The additional buildings in Monkton along with the Goodrich factory on the north side of the airport are a great addition. This scenery is well worth the money and brings this interesting airport to life! Finally! "Pure dead Brilliant!"
