UPDATED Version 2.5.9 - 2021-04-06

The Beech 99 is an evolution of the successful Queen Air and King Air series, and shares the King Air's basic powerplant and layout, but otherwise is a new design, with a significantly lengthened cabin with greater seating capacity. Design of the 99 began in the late 1960s, in part to find a replacement for the venerable Beech 18. In December 1965 a stretched fuselage Queen Air was flown for the first time, while the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 powered prototype model 99 made its first flight in July 1966. The first customer aircraft was delivered in May 1968, the series then known as the Commuter 99. At the time the 99 was Beech's largest aircraft yet and Beech was optimistically forecasting a production rate of 100 per year. Subsequent models were the A99, A99A and B99, with differing powerplants, sub models and weights. The B99 was available in two variants, the B99 Airliner and the B99 Executive, a corporate transport version with seating for between eight and 17 passengers. Production of early models was halted in 1975, and it was not until 1979 that the improved C99 Commuter (plus the larger 1900, described separately) was announced as part of Beech's return to the commuter airliner market. A converted B99 fitted with P&WC PT6A34 engines served as the C99 prototype and flew in this form for the first time on June 20 1980. Production aircraft featured PT6A36 engines, and deliveries recommenced following certification, both in July 1981. Shortly afterwards it became known as the C99 Airliner. C99 production ceased in 1986.

Virtualcol is thrilled to bring you a recreation of the Beechcraft 99 Airliner for Microsoft® Flight Simulator®, including an analogue cockpit with GPS530 operative and a glass cockpit with GS1000 operative as PFD and MFD. This pack includes 3 models: two for passengers and a freighter version and 20 liveries.

NOTE: Please note that this is NOT a professional training aircraft, do not use the information provided or the definitions for real flights use.

This aircraft has a very unique and quite good-looking appearance. But the interior and instruments and still need quite a few updates, and the flight model also needs to be adjusted under (even idle speed is also powered more). I think it still has potential, and I hope the author will actively update it. At the moment I think it is 3 stars.

This was rushed out. It has potential, but there are glaring issues that make it not at all fun or worth it (because it's not even on par with default aircraft)...

I understand the focus for Virtualcol is to provide simple simulation and no system complexity. I am not asking for a study-level aircraft at this price point. But the level of quality in this initial release leaves a lot to be desired. Here is a list of issues:

1) Cockpit textures/meshes are low quality. Those vents above you aren't even close to round. Metal surfaces, such as the yolk rod look bad.
2) Overhead dials. There are about 10 or so of them, NONE of them are labeled, and ALL of them are inop. Inop is fine, but unlabeled and poorly textured is not excusable. That whole overhead panel looks awful.
3) All dials have reverse logic - mousewheel up brings values down and vice versa. This is literally opposite to all other aircraft in the sim. (Except for the VS dials, those are congruent.
4) External Power switch is INOP. Why?
5) When there is no power (cold and dark), COM1 and MRK buttons are lit on the radios. Why? They should only be yellow when powered up/enabled, like your autopilot buttons.
6) Autopilot loses climb authority periodically. Only climbing at 1500 vs 2000 the book states. It eventually gets there, but it needs tweaking
7) What's the purpose of a non-functional 530 avionics module? You can't zoom map, you can't enter waypoints, activate approaches, etc. Why not use the default one then?
8) Takes a LONG runway to reach Vr... Aircraft seems underpowered.
9) Flaps 3 produce a catastrophic loss of airspeed, you will stall pitched down with max throttle, so it can only be engaged JUST above threshold to slow down.
10) Night illumination in the cockpit is terrible - gauges are impossible to see as they are too dim. The panel light only illuminates about 1/3 of the panel. There are no other lights.
11) External lights are almost impossible to see and don't illuminate much.

Either give me simple simulation with eye candy, OR for more money, give me system complexity too. But this is cheap, though NOT fun to fly, and is pretty terrible to look at (in the cockpit - the exterior is fine)...

This is a rushed release. I bought it simply because I have ALL the released aircraft so far, but this needs a lot of work before I can recommend it. The potential is there, though.

It's not there yet, but I hope the developer continues to upgrade this awesome Airliner. In the state it's in rights now, it's a blast to fly and super smooth, but has its challenges.
