like all delta airplanes, landing is the hard part of a F 106 flight. You can reach Mach 2 or more but it will take time compared to modern fighters. We must remember this plane was designed in the late 50's and it broke many records then. In fact it must be compared to the F 102 to appreciate its performances. The Virtavia model is very good and gives a good idea of what flying a supersonic plane was like then.
The F 105 is quite in the tradition of the Republic airplanes : strong, heavy and powerful. It is more like a bomber than a fighter. Its roll-rate is a bit lazy so it had better not mix up in dogfights. It has a long range and can refueled in flight. The virtavia model is quite good and worth buying. I warmly recommend it to "century-fighters" fans.
This addon shows its age but nethertheless it is worth buying if you like to rediscover how our dads or grandads managed to fly those slow, heavy, complex airplanes. The sound is very impressive (think it was picked up from a documentary). The jet-engined bombers soon replaced them but we must keep in mind that the B 36 was designed to bomb Germany from the States in case Britain had fallen which, thanks heaven, never happened.
sure the F 104 was an excellent interceptor, what a strange idea to turn it into a fighter-bomber ! Definitely not a plane for beginners. Landing is no easy job, approach speed : 210 knts and touch down at 170knts ! A drag-chute would be appreciated so never land on a runway shorter than 8000 ft. The Virtavia model is a good buy though it begins to show its age.
Hello ! Flying this delta isn't very different from other deltas (F 102, F 106, Vulcan, mirage, a.s.o.).In fact, you discover why it was withdrawn from service so early . It does fly at Mach 2 but if you maintain this speed you'll find yourself at the controls of a glider ! Sure it can't go very far at high speed,kerosene-guzzler could be its nickname ! The Glowingheat model is rather good and I wish we could fly the TB 58 version from the instructor's seat. Bye !
This is a wonderful airplane but it will fly VTO/STOL only if you have installed FSUIPC 4 and it takes a lot of practise to get the knack of it but it's worth " sweating it out ".
