Bell X-1 Second Generation FSX Package

The Xtreme Prototypes X-1 Second Generation add-on package for Microsoft® Flight Simulator X contains six variations of the four Bell X-1 Second Generation research rocket planes and one light variation of a modified B-29 "Superfortress" carrier aircraft to simulate high-altitude launch.

The Bell X-1 "Second Generation" was an advanced version of the original X-1, the first aircraft in history to have broken the sound barrier with Army Air Corps captain Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager.

The second generation of X-1s, built in the late 1940s and early 1950s, were designed to double the speed of sound and set new altitude records in excess of 90,000 feet. The new X-1s were similar to the original (orange) aircraft, with the same XLR-11 rocket engine (equipped with a turbopump), but were about five feet longer, 2500 pounds heavier and had a conventional glass canopy.

For the serious flight simulation enthusiast and X-1 fan, the Xtreme Prototypes X-1 Second Generation is a chance to relive important moments of the history of flight and experience the performance of a series of aircraft whose new rocket systems, cockpit ergonomics and flight controls were quite a challenge for the test pilots who flew them more than fifty years ago.

The Xtreme Prototypes X-1 SG addon package will allow you to fly at very high altitudes at more than twice the speed of sound in four different versions of the aircraft, simulate virtually all the procedures required during an actual research mission (including emergency procedures such as extinguishing an engine fire or jettisoning the canopy to bail out), and even test the never-built X-1C that was to be equipped with the Sperry A-12 Propilot system and a .50 caliber Browning machine gun.

  • Une variante simplifiée d'un avion porteur B-29 "Superfortress" modifié (modèle extérieur seulement, visible lorsque les X-1A et X-1D spécialement équipés sont en vol, numéro de série USAF 52-1800)

Each add-on aircraft is fully detailed with over 500 parts and 40 animations, and has been carefully modeled based on available drawings, flight manuals, government photographs, movies and other archive material in order to conform as closely as possible to the real-world second generation Bell X-1s.

The airplanes feature different high resolution reflective textures with bump maps, unique markings, movable control surfaces (horizontal stabilizer with an all-moving tail and elevator, vertical stabilizer/rudder, ailerons and flaps), extendable landing gear, front machine gun, yaw-damping surfaces and a retractable ventral fin (X-1C), movable canopy with cockpit details, pilot and animated stick and levers.

All aircraft feature more than a dozen of animated visual effects with sound, such as XLR-11 rocket engine igniter and flame effects, rocket engine contrail effects, engine smoke and fire, machine gun effect (X-1C), wing vortices, liquid oxygen bleed effect, propellant jettison effects and cold vapor around the LOX tank when filled.

The X-1 Second Generation for Flight Simulator X is equipped with one Reaction Motors XLR-11-RM-5 four-chambered liquid-fuel turborocket engine, capable of delivering more than 5,900 pounds of thrust.

Fully Functional 3D Virtual Cockpits

Each aircraft comes with a fully functional virtual cockpit which contains over 800 parts and more than 200 animated gauges, switches, levers, light indicators and flight instruments. Each virtual cockpit has been meticulously created to conform as closely as possible to the cabin of the real second generation Bell X-1.

The full 3D gauges have been carefully designed and programmed based on the original analog instruments found in the real X-1 SG during the 1950s. Virtually all gauges, switches, lights and instruments found on each panel are functional and behave like the original ones found in the real aircraft. All custom rocket aircraft systems present in the real X-1 SG are also simulated.

Three different VC configurations are available for the X-1 SG for Flight Simulator X.

The virtual cockpits allow total 3D immersion into the X-1 SG flying environment and have been created for the desktop pilot to simulate almost every step and procedure required during a typical X-1 research flight.

The VC has (fictitious) cockpit spotlights that are lit when the cockpit lighting switch is turned on (the real X-1 did not have cockpit lighting). This will allow you to fly the X-1 SG even at night.

The four Xtreme Prototypes X-1 SG virtual aircraft are equipped with a modified (fictitious) ARC-5 radio for use with civilian frequencies in Flight Simulator X. The set has two VHF communication transceivers (COM1 and COM2), an automatic direction finder (ADF) and a radio-navigation receiver (VOR) to allow for a fictitious journey around the world in your X-1 at speeds beyond Mach 2.

X-1 SG Pilot's Operating Instructions (Manual)

The Xtreme Prototypes X-1 Second Generation aircraft package comes with a comprehensive 85-page user manual inspired from the original Bell X-1 SG manual (PDF format, Adobe® Reader® 8.0 or later required).

The manual contains the necessary information for the installation and operation of the X-1 SG virtual aircraft, 3D cockpits and associated instrument panels.

The end-user is authorized to print copies of the manual for his/her own use, in conjunction with the add-on simulation software.

LATINVFR - MADRID LEMD P3DV4
Raul
Consider this one of LatinVFR masterpieces. First, for such a massive airport I have no FPS drop at all (PMDG737 NGXu, 747v3 and Majestic Q400 so far tested). Unlike other sceneries, the parking's with GSX and VDGS are precise, no need to modify parking position manually at all. The gates are number exactly as in Navigraph charts, so choose your parking position in GSX after landing and just follow the charts to your gate(and there are a lot of gates, a lot!). The terminals are beautifully modeled with things that are no even in the description like glass elevators moving. Night illumination while not the best I have seen, its beautiful. Its kind of compatible with ORBX global, I said "kind of" because as you enter the scenery area you can see the change in colors, its subtle but still noticeable. My only complaint if any is that this airport have around 5 towers and you can only get tower view from only one. But that's easily fix with chase plane. I do not feel like taking any stars for the small things I pointed out, so it is a 5 star scenery.
AFLOSIM - CLUJ-NAPOCA AIRPORT FSX P3D
Keith
Stunning little airport! Lots of detail and ground clutter, dirty apron; animated vehicles, birds, people, windsock, etc. The winter ice and snow effects with optional snow piles is excellent. Best feature of all is something I've never seen before in FS - the optional rainbow! (as with some of these things, can be turned on or off via the configurator). Night lighting good. Highly recommended.
BDOAVIATION - LAMEZIA TERME LICA FSX P3D
Jose
Beautiful airport, but there's an issue with the afcad. AI airplanes park where the nice static planes were placed. So you have AI on top of the static. The photo scenery is nicely done, but it doesn't play well with the freeware Italian scenery package. It does blend well with ORBX/LC/Vectors-
. You can disable some of the photo included, but god luck finding the .bgl files. They have unusual names and you will have to go through one by one. There's also a slight performance hit when viewing the terminal. Ha-
ving said all that, I think it's a beautiful looking airport even though a bit over priced even when it's on sale. Lastly I contacted support and did not receive a prompt response. If they fix the afcad, I'll revise my review.

AEROSOFT - LUKLA - MOUNT EVEREST EXTREME FSX
ALVARO
Highly recommended for those who still fly in FSX just waiting for MSF2020. The airport and scenery around, are excellent. It really does challenge your skills as pilot, it is probably one of the most difficult approaches and landings in the world.
FSOARES - SANTAREM AIRPORT - SBSN - FSX P3DV3 P3DV4
Markus
What a beautiful little scenery this is, very well done! It features detailed modelling and crisp texturing throughout, with highly realistic looking textures. And the beauty of it, this is the case in ALL areas of the airport, from the fire station to the maintenance hangars, no area is overlooked. Adding to that, the airport is integrated flawlessly into ORBX OpenLC SA. Perfectly animated and functional SODE windsocks complement the scenery, as well as realistic looking runway lights. I've sent two suggestions for improvement to the developer, who instantly replied and agreed, taking notes for the next update. This is excellent support.
JUSTFLIGHT - PA-28-161 WARRIOR FSX
Austen
Accurate simulation of a real Piper Warrior. The aircraft model is outstanding. Having flown the actual aircraft, all the functionality is there. Even the engine sounds like the real deal. Would definitely recommend this product for anyone training on this aircraft as you are able to go through the entire real world checklist and practice stalls/emergenc-
y procedures.
FLYFREESTD - SUKHOI SU-27/27UB FLANKER-B/C FSX
Austen
Finally a Flanker that is worth purchasing! -
I've been searching for a SU-27 for FSX for a while now and have finally found a quality one. Both external and interior models are very well done. The external model has that shiny look that comes with quality models. The interior seems to be a fairly accurate representation of the real world cockpit. All the instruments and switches are in the correct Russian. My only complaint is that not all the switches are interactive, but nevertheless all the important ones are. The avionics reflect the 1980s design of this aircraft, so don't expect to navigate using modern tech. Basic nav and autopilot functions are all there along with a simple waypoint pointer. Flying the SU-27 is a welcome change compared to the typical western fighter. Can confirm you are able to perform the cobra maneuver, but make sure to turn off the AoA limiter. Ove-
rall, I would highly recommend checking this product out if you are looking for a SU-27.
