VERTEX DESIGN STUDIO - DAMMAM - OEDF MSFS20/24
The main buildings are modelled in very good quality, so wherever you park with you aircraft, you end up next to a nicely detailed building with good texturing. The airport however disappoints with the ground textures and the modelling in between taxiways and runways: - The aerial imagery used as a basis is of extremely low resolution. And this low resolution is often seen next to the taxiways. In other areas things got patched over by pavement textures. However, those often look very sterile generic and repetitive, not at all life-like. A prime example is the ground textures around the fire stations. - As a consequence there are giant black "streaks" running all over the airport, which I can only guess are supposed to be water drainage canals. But due to the low resolution imagery they are simply flat and black (due to their shadow) but highly pixelated. Those should be modelled in 3D and covered with higher resolution textures. - The colour of the aerial imagery doesn't match surrounding MSFS colours. Would be fantastic if that could receive some colour correction and would therefore not be visible as a giant bright square in the landscape. - Many technical installations, sheds and equipment are not modelled in 3D. Glideslope antennas are flat, the VOR station is flat, and various small buildings and sheds remain flat as well. - When approaching from the north one can see a cliff in the terrain mesh at the border of the scenery. It looks like the airport is made all flat and therefore doesn't match the surrounding terrain. All in all a promising rendition of OEDF with good buildings, but let down by below-average ground modelling and texturing compared with some competitors. If the developers want to charge premium prices, then certain parts need to be brought to a higher standard.
